Subject: Bug Report 2
Mime-Version: 1.0
Hi Andy !
Another bug report ! (what a cruel world ;-))
BUGS :
All these bugs occur under AMOS Pro 2.0, both under my normal
everyhthing-is-patched-system, and under a very minimal environment (boot
with no startup-sequence).
- If I set a string gadget with a too small height (8 with the standard
topaz font, for ex.), my system crashes. You should handle this error...
- The "Igadget Active" with no arguments crashes. I simply define a Hit
gadget, and run the "Igadget Active" command with no parameters. Then
various effects appear (mouse frozen, display totally corrupted, and so on),
and all crash my system... If I put an argument, it works...
- If I try the ICls command, it crashes ! I opened a 4 bitplanes hires laced
screen, then if do a Icls 4 I've got a software failure ! MCP says that it's
an "Illegal address access (ie: odd)". Icls without arguments works.
- Rhhaaa ! Bugs ! Bugs ! Bugs everywhere ! ;-)
If I try to copy a portion of a screen to another place into the same
screen, I've got a system crash ! On the hires screen described in the
previous paragraph, I do something like Iscreen copy 0,0,0,320,200 to
0,30,10 --> crash (I tried other values, and that did the same). MCP says
that it's a "Line 1111 Emulator error" (???). Any idea ?
- Same for the Iget Icon instruction. The Ipaste Icon instruction works
fine, but I had to test it with an already defined icon bank. If I try to
get an icon via Iget Icon, there's a crash (and I reserved a place in the
icon bank, though (in fact I try to replace an already existing icon with
one grabbed from the intuition screen)). MCP says "Illegal instruction"...
- Oups ! If you use the "No Icon Mask" before using Ipaste Icon, then the
pasted icons will be completely corrupted !!
- Hem... Sorry but I didn't manage to understand the way sliders work. I
want to define a vertical slider : I use the following definition.
Set Igadget Vslider 1,64,80,14,140,1500,0,1,0
So, I should have a slider really smaller than the slider bar, but my slider
fills totally the bar, so it's impossible to move it. I change the values
randomly, but no change happens. Could you explain me what the SIZE value
stands for (that's really not clear in the doc). I tried an horizontal
slider. Here the slider is smaller than the title bar, but if I change
values, nothing happens (it always has the same size). And if I click
on the slider bar but not on the slider itself, the slider doesn't move (it
should do, no ?) ! Does I have to handle it manually ? How ? Well...
HEEEEEEEEELP !!!!
Well, with all these system failures, I begin to wonder if there's not a
fundamental problem between your extension and my beloved AMIGA... I forgot
to tell you that I've a 68030 processor... But I don't think it's the cause
of the problem. What's your configuration ?
SUGGESTIONS :
Here is a list of suggestions. Importance vary from *** (very important) to
* (not so important) :
** - Is it possible to write underlined, bold or italic text with the ITEXT
command ? If not, it would be good to add this feature...
* - What about implementing intuition screen zones ?
*** - If you have 2 screens (or more) on the same display, there's no way to
know on which screen is the mouse pointer. What about a Imouse Screen ?
*** - Well, I think that the reqtools provides a string requester (function
rtGetStringA). What about adding it as "A$=Irequest String (title$,maxcars)"
? The 2.0 version of ReqTools is even able to display text above the entry
gadget and more than one response gadget !
*** - A "Iload Iff" command would be greatly apreciated !
* - What about the palette feature of reqtools too ?
CONCLUSION :
The more I use your extension, the more I like it !! (even if I get nasty
bugs :-( ). It's very comprehensive, and a pleasure to use... I think it's
certainly THE major add on to AMOS that everybody should own. Indeed, even
if other extensions improve development facilities, yours brings a
fundamental evolution to our favourite language. If you'd decide to involve
seriously into this project, I'm sure it could become a great commercial
product (we could discuss about that). To give you an idea, the DevOs
package (similar to Intos) is sold in France about 400 french francs (about
$80 !) and is difficult to use (rather basic system calls). I know people
working for the French Amiga press, so advertising could be possible with an
article... Well, that's just a proposal (personnaly I've no interest in
this)...
I hope that this bug report will help you and that all these f****** bugs
will be removed (that's a bit frustrating to see my AMIGA crash every 2
minutes...). Your extension is a great program : It deserves an effort from
your part (send me debugged version as soon as possible, since I can't do
many things with this one) !
See you !
I'll send you collector just now !
